What is Chinese Medicine? What is Acupuncture?

Chinese Medicine is an ancient healing tradition that has existed for 5,000 years. A main philosophy of this medicine is that illness, whether it be disease, pain, injury, emotional stress, or something else, stems from a disharmony or imbalance; and in order to regain health and harmony, balance in the body's internal and external environments must be restored.

Balance can be restored by treating a whole individual - their body, mind, and spirit - through a variety of methods.

One method used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is Acupuncture. In Acupuncture, tiny needles are inserted into Acupuncture points in order to access Qi (chee), the life force, or vital energy flowing through the body. Other modalities your practitioner may use include cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, Tuina (traditional Chinese Medicine massage), Qigong, nutrition, and Chinese herbal medicine.

Chinese Medicine has been widely studied for a variety of different health concerns, is safe, and when delivered by a practitioner trained in TCM can be an excellent complementary addition to your current health plan of care.

"Laura is an incredible practitioner who has cultivated an environment of trust and understanding. She asks questions which help her target specific treatments which work for me. Her thirst to know more always leads her down a path of refining treatment for me which is geared towards my specific energies. This makes her treatments effective, and I consider her services to be an integral part of my wellness. I know that coming to acupuncture helps me feel my best, and whatever comes my way I can always safely and effectively address it."

C. F., patient

"I started seeing Laura in October 2021... After several sessions over the following months, the rash and the gastrointestinal issues had disappeared entirely, and my sleep quality improved. Every session we meet, Laura welcomes me with uplifted energy and creates a healing space where I can share everything happening inside of myself physically, mentally, and energetically."

Y. R., patient

"What I appreciate most about Laura is... she brings her whole self to the treatment room. She is warm and compassionate, she is a great listener, and she develops thoughtful and effective treatments that get to the core of the support I'm looking for. She explains the reasons for the points she's chosen and needles gently. She asks for feedback... to confirm she's achieved her treatment goals. I feel comfortable and safe in Laura's presence. I feel like I can share my concerns and I don't feel judged or like I need to hold things back."

E. L., patient

"Working... in the clinic with Laura is always inspiring and leaves me with a feeling of positivity and a sense of possibility. She approaches [Chinese Medicine] with passion and intelligence. Laura's healing presence instills a sense of welcome and belonging in her patients, and she exudes optimism that is infectious. In her presence I believe her patients can be helped, and they do too. She sees them in wholeness, and they can feel that."
